Goblins Wrath

This was a project I worked on for a class where we had to design a board game only using dice and a coin flip. I was mainly responsible for the art, but I also designed the design of the main enemy of the game, the Goblins. These creatures would serve as the game pieces, and the other game pieces were the knights. The main point of the game is moving each other’s pieces, both the knight and goblin had special abilities to make this much easier.
The first thing I did, was to make a quick reference board filled with other art styles that I found appealing. For this model, I mostly used the goblins from the game Miitopia as a reference because I wanted the goblins to look very playful and cartoony. I also wanted the designs to feel unique and expressive so I also tried to look at animals that had similar features to goblins, such as the white honduran bat and a river frog.
Finally, I sculpted it in ZBrush before taking it to Blender to retopologize it. Then I textured it in Adobe Substance Painter, before rendering it in Blender.
